In this yearlong elective students will explore various art tools, media, historically relevant artists, contemporary artists, and methods of art criticism. This project-based class develops students' creative problem solving skills with a focus on the elements of art and principles of design.
At the end of the course, students who choose to participate in an optional portfolio review have the opportunity to bypass Art 1 and enroll in Art 2 as incoming freshmen at Mira Costa High School.
Intermediate Art is a yearlong course designed to give students a strong foundation in fine art skills. Students will be introduced to a variety of art tools, media, historically relevant artists, and methods of art criticism.
Intermediate Art is is designed for seventh and eighth grade students. Seventh grade students who take Intermediate Art do not need to apply for Advanced Art, should they wish to continue art in eighth grade.
Intermediate Art is the prerequisite for Advanced Art. Intermediate Art can only be taken once.
This trimester-long elective class is designed to give students basic foundational art skills, with a focus on drawing. Students will be introduced to a variety of art tools, media, and historically relevant artists. This course is aligned with the Common Core Standards for the Fine Arts with a focus on the elements of art and principles of design.
